The TMT Quenching System is located after the final finishing stand of the mill train that provides a thermal treatment to the rebar and plain round products when required. The rebar is directed through special pipes which uses high pressure water. This cools the bar, which rapidly causes martensite, to form at the surface of the bar. After passing through these pipes, the bars reach the cooling bed where the internal high temperature at the core of the bar transfers to its surface, with the effect that tempered martensite is produced at the surface.
This type of structure increases the tensile and yield values of the bar without having to resort to special alloying of the rebar material. Two pyrometers are provided in the system, one at the entry of Quenching System and one at the exit, in order to check the bar temperature and allowing the operator to adjust (if necessary) the water flow rate for obtaining the required product mechanical properties.
At Kathuria, we manufacture the TMT Quenching System which can cover the above treatment to make special grades of rounds/rebars from Dia 8 mm to 40 mm with a Ratio of ultimate over Yield Strength varying from 1.15 to 1.26.
